Book launch: “The Prologue of the Gospel of John: Its Literary, Theological, and Philosophical Contexts”, 2016, Van der Watt, Culpepper and Schnelle (eds), Mohr Siebeck
This outstanding publication, published by one of the pre-eminent theological publishers in Europe, was launched in Potchefstroom on 27 October 2016. The fact that the publication was published by Mohr Siebeck in their series Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zum Neuen Testament (nr 359), speaks volumes of the excellent qaulity of research contained therein, dealing with literary, theological, and philosopical aspects of the prologue to the Gospel of John. This does not, however, come as a surprise since the contributors are all outstanding New Testament scholars, recognised as such in their discipline. The Faculty of Theology of the Potchefstroom campus of the North-West University has a close relationship to the publication since it arose from a research project that had its roots in Potchefstroom. A number of the contributors, among them the three editors, are also extraordinary appointees of the Faculty, which further strengthens this bond. Thus it was a privilege to wlecome one of the editors, prof JG (Jan) van der Watt, here and to listen to his launching of the book. Prof GJC (Jorrie) Jordaan, New Testament scholar of the Faculty, delivered a short review of the book. He repeatedly referred to the quality and usefulness of the research contained therein. The subject group New Testament and the Faculty believe that this international cooperation can be extended to great effect in future, and that many more such publications will appear in print.
