Masters Research Degrees in Theology

Masters degree in Theology (Dissertation) – 180 credits

This Masters Degree in Theology is a research degree.  Access to this degree programme requires a BA (Hons) in Theology/Religious Education or an equivalent qualification. Success in gaining this degree provides direct access to the Doctoral degree programme.

A dissertation of not less than 35 000 words on a religious/theological research area of the student’s choice from the following options: Catechetics; Dogmatics; Ethics; Homiletics; Church- and Dogma History; Missiology; New Testament; Old Testament; Pastoral Studies.

The dissertation must be preceded by an approved Research Proposal.

 

Masters degree in Theology –  in Christian Ministry (Modules with mini-dissertation) – 180 credits

Students must be in possession of a modular MDiv or equivalent qualification.  Admission to this degree programme is at the discretion of the Director of Research at the NWU Faculty of Theology and is based on previous assignments and/or research results. Success in gaining this degree provides direct access to the Doctoral degree programme.

A mini-dissertation of not less than 25 000 words on a religious/theological research area of the student’s choice from the following options: Catechetics; Dogmatics; Ethics; Homiletics; Church- and Dogma History; Missiology; New Testament; Old Testament; Pastoral Studies.

The mini-dissertation must be preceded by an approved Research Proposal.

 

Master of Arts in Ancient Languages – 180 credits

A dissertation of not less than 35 000 words on a research area of the student’s choice from the following options: Greek; Latin; Semitic Languages.  Success in gaining this degree provides direct access to the Doctoral degree programme.

The dissertation must be preceded by an approved Research Proposal.
